Lowco Student Media Initiative
Training the
next generation
Since its inception in 2017, LowcoSports has sought to provide opportunities for students and aspiring professionals to gain hands-on experience in the sports media field while creating content that celebrates the successes of teams and athletes in our four-county region of the South Carolina Lowcountry.

Inspired by Lowco Media founder Justin Jarrett's experience as a student at the University of Missouri School of Journalism, the program has given numerous high school and college students and aspiring journalists and media professionals opportunities to learn by doing and put their work on display in their community.

Students who have participated in the program have gone on to great success, including full-time jobs with reputable newspapers and network TV affiliates and opportunities to attend prestigious academic institutions and work in their athletics departments.
In the fall of 2024, Jarrett became certified to teach media technology to high school students through the Career and Technical Education program and accepted a position at Hardeeville Junior and Senior High School, where students in his classes produce the Canes News broadcast and the "Keepin' It Real in The Ville" podcast.
By taking the Lowco Student Media Initiative to the classroom and partnering with the One Lowco Foundation, the program can be scaled to serve more students around the Lowcountry and provide them with the industry-standard equipment needed to create content that will make their portfolios stand out while informing our community about the teams and athletes repping the Lowco!
