ABOUT ONE LOWCO FOUNDATION

The One Lowco Foundation champions the growth of young athletes and scholars throughout the South Carolina Lowcountry. We dedicate ourselves to nurturing local talents in both the sports world and the media industry, crafting well-rounded hometown heroes with the skills to succeed.

The mission of the One Lowco Foundation is to help facilitate and sustain grassroots programming that allows young athletes and aspiring sports media professionals in the South Carolina Lowcountry to develop to their full potential and access opportunities to leverage their talents and academic prowess into college scholarships and, potentially, careers. Created by Rob Benson, the architect of H2 Basketball, and Justin Jarrett, founder of LowcoSports, the One Lowco Foundation aims to develop and support programming that instills fundamental skills and concepts across numerous sports from a young age and provide access to all children in the Lowcountry, all the while supporting the Lowco Student Media Initiative to train the next generation of sports journalists by giving them opportunities to help LowcoSports shine a light on the successes of the area’s teams and athletes.

Join us in this journey to put kids in the Lowco first and help them turn their dreams into achievements.

Rob Benson is a transplant from the Washington, D.C., area who grew up as a multi-sport athlete competing in some of the country’s most competitive conferences. With a passion for sports, in particular basketball, Rob comes to One Lowco after a 25-plus-year career in lifestyle and sports entertainment marketing, including stints with Adidas, UnderArmour, and Reebok, as well as brand development and strategy work with top agencies, even owning a boutique agency.

In 2020 after seeing a glaring need in the local basketball community, Benson addressed it with an academy-style, exposure-based basketball travel program. H2 Basketball’s sole goal became development through sweat equity, determination, and grit with an end goal of free or leveraged secondary education opportunities for student-athletes who rise to meet the program’s standards. Beyond bringing the area’s top players together on the court for high-level training and competition, H2 aids its players’ recruitment through strategic cutting-edge marketing that garners massive impressions and exposure for players seeking scholarship offers.

Justin Jarrett moved to the Lowcountry in June 2005 to accept a position as a sports reporter at The Island Packet newspaper and has been deeply invested in the area’s sports community ever since. After six years covering local sports for The Island Packet and Beaufort Gazette, the last year as sports editor for both newspapers, JJ became the USCB Sand Sharks’ first director of sports information and marketing in 2011 — and bought the LowcoSports.com domain name.

In June 2017, after learning the newspapers had laid off the last local sports staffer, JJ launched LowcoSports.com and began covering high school sports in Beaufort and Jasper counties. LowcoSports has since added Colleton and Hampton counties to its coverage area and is the pre-eminent source of sports news in the region, with live-streamed hyperlocal sports talk shows throughout the week in addition to broadcast-style updates every weekday. Through his work celebrating standout athletes in the area and coaching youth baseball, softball, and wrestling, JJ has found his purpose in helping to develop young people into well-rounded adults through the avenue of sports.
